Abstract:   (155 Views)
This research was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of therapy focused on self-compassion on depression, caregiving pressure, and ataxia in caregivers of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease. The study employed a semi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population included caregivers of the elderly with Alzheimer's disease who attended the Alzheimer's Association of Iran in Arak city between February 1402 and August 1403. Participants were selected through purposive sampling and randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group underwent self-compassion-focused treatment, while the control group received no intervention. Measurement tools included Beck's Depression Inventory (1996), Novak and Gast's Caregiving Pressure Questionnaire (1989), and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (1985), completed during pre-test, post-test, and a three-month follow-up by both groups. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance. Results showed that self-compassion-focused treatment significantly reduced depression, caregiving pressure, and ataxia in the experimental group compared to the control group. These findings indicate that self-compassion-focused therapeutic intervention can effectively improve the psychological and emotional state of caregivers of the elderly with Alzheimer's disease. This research underscores the importance of addressing the psychological needs of elderly caregivers and suggests implementing similar programs in health and treatment centers to support this group.
